Family Sessions

One of my most treasured possessions is what our family calls our 'Family Yearbooks'. Every year we compile an album with photos from throughout the year and my kids pour over those books endlessly. Its a little heartbreaking but as my kids grow I am finding it harder to conjure the memories of when they were tiny babies and their whole hand could barely grip my finger. I can't always recall what it felt like to hold a 2 year old leaning heavy on my shoulder, or what it looked like as I walked each of my 5 year olds in to their kindergarten classrooms. I am already anticipating how hard it is going to be to send my oldest off to college and miss the days of all being under one roof. But when I pull out those yearbooks and flip through, it truly all does come flooding back and that is why they are so valuable to me. That is what photography offers us, and that is why I am so passionate about family photography as an art form.
It makes me *so* happy to be that documentarian for your family. I love imagining your kids looking back at these photos and seeing how cherished they are. I feel privileged to be invited in to your homes and your stories in whatever season you're in right now, creating tangible memories to hold for many years to come.

Classic Session

Milestone Mini

The Classic Session is what I consider the ideal amount of time to capture a mixture of candid moments and classic portraits of your family. I will document your family as a whole and have enough time to capture a few images of each family member or child individually. Classic sessions move fairly quickly but are plenty of time for variety and ease within your gallery as well.

These sessions are up to 45 minutes in length, include a minimum of 60 edited image files and can happen at your home/property or at a scenic spot in the Anchorage area.
Need more time? Additional hours are $400

Did someone just take their first steps? Lose a tooth? Have a birthday or an anniversary? Does it just feel like you need a quick update of where things are at right now?

These sessions are limited to families who I have worked with at least once before! The rapport/relationships I build with my clients are really important to me as is the quality of work I deliver. I believe these quick sessions are best reserved for people I know so that we can jump right in with efficiency and still create beautiful images together.

Milestone minis are 20 minutes in length, include up to 20 edited image files and can happen anywhere in the Anchorage bowl.

Heriloom Stories

$1250

Do you have a special place that you go with your family, a favorite berry picking spot, or hiking trail, or playground? Is there a cherished bedtime or morning routine that would be so special to document, to help cement those memories in your minds to look back on in the future? Family Heirloom Stories are meant to be a documentary experience where I join your family as an observer and capture your family doing what you love. I am open to ALL ideas here, and would love to help brainstorm the perfect way to spend our time together. The years are short, my friends. Time may march on but we can do our best to preserve its essence.

These sessions are up to 90 minutes in length and can happen anywhere! Travel fees will be added for destinations farther than Portage Valley to Hatcher Pass
Additional Hours are available at $400/hour

Family Session Tips

Communicate...

Don't sweat the small stuff.

...with your family: Why are we doing this, how can they help/what are the expectations, and...what is the reward?
I'm not above a little bribery (Hint: ice cream)
...and with me: Tell me about yourselves. Tell me your hopes for this session. Tell me if you are worried or stressed about something related to this session.
More information helps me to document your family well and give you the final product you're hoping for.

Consider this an invitation to set down some of the mental load during our time together. Allow me to attend to all of the details during the session, and make sure everyone is paying attention. Trust me, I've got this! I have worked with hundreds of families over many years and it is my joy to be able to do this for you.
All you have to do is take a deep breath, show up with a positive attitude and willingness to engage with your family.
I will take care of the rest.

Lets be honest, there is a level of stress involved with family photos. You want it to go well and you may have a vision in mind for just how you want the photos to look. Ultimately, it is best to try to let go of the details for the sake of everyone's enjoyment of this process! Lets have fun with it! Its more important to arrive at a session at ease than for everything to be 'just-so'. The goal is to honestly and authentically document your family in this season. Perfection is boring.

Engagement Tips

all too often, couples worry about inconveniencing people on their wedding day. I think it’s great to be a caring person, but...this is your wedding day. I believe that we can go to epic locations (they're everywhere!) and do it in such a way that people aren't waiting around for hours while we're out strolling around on mountaintops (see tip #1)

I am more than happy to help brainstorm ideas to make your session perfect! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

In my experience, having emergency snacks on hand is always helpful. Also, please check the weather forecast ahead of time and dress appropriately! It is always best to be warm and comfy for your session..and with shoes that work for our wild landscape if your session is outdoors.

Come along on my personal adventures, big and small.

Think, coordinated but not matchy-matchy. Everyone should wear something that they feel comfortable in, and they should look like 'them'. Don't overthink this one, you are a real family and you don't need to look like you stepped out of a magazine!

I do adore an in home session, especially if your family has never done one before or have moved in to a new home. However we live in the most gorgeous place and I am *always* in love with capturing families in the beauty that surrounds us.

Because of the busy nature of life, we will do whatever we can to stick to our selected date regardless of the weather. We may need to have a back up location in mind just in case! However, if we simply can not make it work, we can postpone.

Pets are always welcome to join! These sessions are meant for immediate families. If you would like an extended family session that is a different ballgame please let me know and I will send over the info for that!
